Neubecker Elucidates Computer Forensics to John Marshall Law Students
CHICAGO: April 8, 2004 - Lee Neubecker, President and CEO of Forensicon, a computer forensics and electronic discovery firm in Chicago, will be presenting "Computer Forensics and Tort and Personal Injury Law" to students from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago on April 20, 2004.
The presentation will cover basic information about computer forensics
and electronic discovery as they relate to Tort and Personal Injury Law.
With the increased attention given to electronic evidence discovery after
the Enron scandal that unsettled corporate America, coupled with the
worldwide exponential growth of electronic data, computer forensics is
starting to play an essential role in the litigation industry. Having
established its recent significant role in the legal industry, the
presentation will explicate the more technical nature of computer forensics
in a more understandable language to people who are not necessarily
technologically inclined.
The presentation will include information that details what happens to deleted files, how to comply by rules to protecting evidence and ensuring admissibility, and what to look for in computer forensic investigations. It will also delve into the more complex nature of computer meta data, which provides essential information about a file, for example, when it was created, altered, and deleted.
Neubecker explains that the rise in the need for electronic discovery and computer forensics means that attorneys who practice criminal law are not the only ones who will be dealing with computer forensics as electronic data is an essential means of communication and information storage for the majority of people. He offers, "I have personally dealt with divorce and personal injury cases where electronic evidence uncovered by computer forensics was at the crux of these cases."
He emphasizes the important steps one must take in order to ensure the admissibility of evidence. "To guarantee the admissibility of the evidence," he states, "complying with electronic discovery regulations is key."
The presentation will be an hour long, and the Q&A session will follow immediately.
