"First Business" Interview: Consumer Data Security

CHICAGO, IL: June 9, 2006 - In a segment titled, "Consumer Data Security," Tom Hudson, anchor of First Business News, asks about how corporations should protect and manage personal consumer data and how entities like the Veterans Administration and hotels.com reacted when that data was stolen.

When asked "Are we at a point where regulators need to step in? Do we need Congressional authority, or should corporations have official policies in place?" Mr. Neubecker replied that "Litigation will naturally push corporations to put safeguards in place because the burden of responsibility is shifting. A company can no longer say 'we don't know what happened to the tape, that the dog ate it'. If they don't have good programs in place to prevent this, they're going to be held accountable."
